The integration of these practices opens space for us to release negative thought patterns that are holding us back or creating stress in our lives. Interspersed journaling throughout the weekend that revolves around the emotional and bodily responses to these practices, helps us to identify what is arising within us that we need to pay attention to. We can then begin to reframe and retrain our thoughts, ultimately rewiring our brains for healthier outcomes.

Key approaches you will experience during our retreat
Sensory-based art making
We will create art using a sensory-motor approach. This type of art making does not require any artistic skills because it does not use imagery, but the direct expression of one’s felt sense. Working in this way encourages listening to inner guidance, to what the body needs to restore itself back to wholeness and wellbeing.
This technique helps the brain recalibrate how it responds to stress and trauma by using the physical movement of your body instead of a brush or pencil in your hand. Sensory-motor art making helps the release of tension and pain stored in the body, and helps you assert healthy boundaries. During the art making we will have a healing sound bath to help you relax more deeply into the experience.
Transformative Song Writing
Music eases the brain into a ‘flow’ state, allowing you the power to convey thoughts and feelings and to explore new ways of thinking, and giving you a chance to rewrite your personal story.
During our song-writing sessions you will be guided in creating a collaborative musical piece. This process will promote self-exploration and creative expression, as the various sounds encourage you to open your heart. This collaborative expression is meant to help push you through creative blocks and be in flow. No musical ability is required — just the willingness to explore emotions, share connections, and heal creatively.
Vagus Nerve Stimulation
The vagus nerve plays a major part in helping your body regulate the flight-or-fight response. Keeping your vagus nerve strong and balanced can help you respond more effectively to a variety of emotional and physiological symptoms. Regulating the vagus nerve through stimulation keeps your cardiovascular and respiratory systems in balance, and helps the body and mind heal from burnout, chronic stress, or trauma.
Somatic Movement
Slow, simple movements performed consciously, and with the focus on the internal experience of the movement rather than the external result, encourages the body to open and expand. These conscious movements help release stuck emotions, and build a strong mind-body connection. Learn to use gentle movements to release pent-up negative energy and access your inner strength and resilience.
Sound healing
An immersive, vibrational experience. Combining different healing sounds and healing instruments, such as crystal and brass singing bowls, tuning forks, chimes, and gongs, improves well-being. By using intentional listening during these beautiful soundscapes, the experience becomes highly effective at triggering a relaxation response. Sound healing counters the many symptoms caused by chronic stress by increasing the release of stress-reducing neurotransmitters and lowering cortisol levels. It helps improve mood by increasing the production of dopamine, serotonin, and endorphins.
Ceremony
Ceremonies and rituals create a sense of connection and belonging within us, which is a need deeply embedded within our DNA. Ceremonies remind us that there is something greater than we are able to perceive. They create an awe of the universe and help us understand paradigms of unity and connection to one another and to the divine.
To enrich our retreat experience and bind all of the learning together we will gather for a heart-opening cacao ceremony, an ancient ritual to facilitate healing, self-expression, and community. Preceding our cacao ceremony we will gather around the fire (weather permitting). Fire ceremonies are an ancient ritual to open space and allow us a chance to release what no longer serves us into the fire.
